A block away from the quaint shops, peculiar parlors and cheap eateries of St. Mark's Place, Alumni Hall prides itself on being at the heart of the East Village. Alumni breaks away from the traditional roommate experience with its apartment style, single bedroom suites in which you can have one other suitemate or up to four depending on what room configuration you select.
The single bedroom suites provide space while the individual locks on each bedroom door provide privacy. The bare white walls and brown flooring can at times make you feel as if you were in solitary confinement, which makes decorating and adding color key. Living on the upper floors of the building will guarantee a scenic view of the city lights, but make sure you leave plenty of time if you're planning to hop on the elevator. With two slow-moving elevators servicing 16 floors and over 400 residents, taking the stairs is the way to go.
Whether you dabble with cooking or are a top chef, expect to be dwarfed by the cramped kitchen and dining area. The late night loud noise level from those milling about downstairs might pose a problem when trying to fall asleep. As far as the social environment goes, the 7A partnership with the Seventh Street dorm tries to bring residents together for activities in an environment where you can go weeks without bumping into your suitemate for a minute or two.
