The Green House at Seventh Street is one of the lesser-known upperclassman residence halls at NYU — and perhaps one of its best-kept secrets.
The hall, located between 2nd and 3rd avenues on 40 E. Seventh St., has apartment-style dorms, each of which has a bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen, common area and dining area. The rooms are large and most students are happy with the size of the kitchens. One catch, though: There's no air conditioning.
Students have access to a laundry room that takes quarters, so you can get rid of your spare change — and you don't have to worry about a pesky laundry card.
There's no elevator, but the building only has four floors so climbing the stairs shouldn't be a major problem — except maybe on move-in day.
In addition to having a smaller number of students, Seventh Street gives residents opportunities for helping in sustainability efforts at NYU. Each resident participates in one of four focuses: Conservation Programming, Communal Dinners, Community Service and Community Development.
With about 80 students and two RAs, the Green House offers students a quieter community option.
