Welcome back

After a well-deserved and relaxing break, it is great to be back at NYU.

With the new year comes a new managing team and editorial staff. But rest assured — we will continue to provide quality news and information to the NYU community. We even have some new surprises for our readers this semester, including the regular updating of this blog.

This blog will give you a behind-the-scenes look at the staff and their thoughts as we work on the publication. Many of us have found a home here at the Washington Square News, and we want to share the WSN family experience with the people who keep us going — our readers. Hopefully, it will also give you a little insight into what we do here and how we go about daily production. For instance, click here to see pictures of our first editorial workshop and team bonding experience.

If you are interested in joining our team, our first pitch meetings will be on Sunday, February 3rd, at our office on 838 Broadway, 5th floor. You do not need prior experience to write for us. Just come to any of the meetings in which you are interested (listed below), meet the editors and try to pick a story that they give out.

Despite the cold weather here in New York, our team did not completely hibernate during break. If you didn’t get a chance to catch up on all your favorite TV shows and movies, our arts team has been diligently reviewing them on The Highlighter, WSN’s arts blog. Our opinion columnists have also been keeping up-to-date with important news and expressing their thoughts on these issues. We’re also planning to expand our multimedia, and here is our first video of the year about Improv Everywhere’s “No Pants Subway Ride” by editor-at-large Emily Yang. And in case you’re feeling a sense of nostalgia, here is a quick list of notable events from last year, compiled by our very own Managing Editor Amy Zhang.

Our staff welcomes you back home and wishes you good luck during the first week of classes!
