Students from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies heeded for one last time their professors and mentors, but this time the wise words were delivered in the Grand Hyatt New York, not an NYU classroom. The class of 2013 — or as interim dean and vice dean Dennis Di Lorenzo called them, the “band of quiet rebels” — listened to the importance of an education, aspiration and confidence.

The loudest applause came from students to their family and friends. They became the central themes in the ceremony, with each speaker reminding students that although they successfully navigated the past four academic years alone, this experience was shaped by the people who have stood by their sides. The ceremony ended with a final note to embrace failure and to bring to life the same excitement and wonder felt in that moment as the students passed another threshold in life.
