Son Jung Wan Spring/Summer 2014

The concept of Son Jung Wan S/S 2014 was “Away…”, and as the lights brightened and the first model walked down the runway in an off-white jumpsuit with a high neck and slit side cutouts, show attendees were immediately transported to an earthy desert-like scene where light tones pervaded the runway (whites, yellows, pinks, browns). In between the lighter and more flowing looks came some dazzling surprises in the form of gold sequined ensembles. At times, these introductions seemed abrupt, but overall the collection remained tied together by a carefree, vacation-like mood.

The wild nature of the back of the models’ hairstyles was contrasted with a demure makeup palette created by Shiseido. Sitting in the front row was Kelly Rutherford, of Gossip Girl fame, who seemed to fully enjoy the show and joined the designer backstage after the runway lights had dimmed. Son Jung Wan, the designer herself, spoke backstage of characterizing her designs as, “sexy, feminine, and chic”. With a show that introduced the sheer, sequined, and relaxed, it seems as if the designer has met her end goal this season.
