Lucio Castro Spring/Summer 2015

Entitled “Soviet Summer,” Lucio Castro’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection is with certainty a nod to summers far and fast. Sticking to a mainly grey and navy color selection and big coat/slim pant pairings, the line manages to be far from predictable with its use of unexpected colors and details.

The theme is interpreted literally, but not unsuccessfully, in terry cloth items like a nautically-detailed hoodie that reads “Croatia.” Despite the conscious nod to the ‘70s and ‘80s, however, many of the garments simply come across as old-fashioned—the heavy grandpa sweaters and loose polos are thematic but not particularly stylish. What saves the collection is its use of unconventional detailing, like the long checkered shoelace belts and bites of bright pink on shirt collars.

The pieces are varied, and the careful thought put into this collection’s curation is evident, championing a distinctly somber summery vibe as if taken directly from found photographs.
