Nanette Lepore Spring/Summer 2015

On Sunday evening, the lights went down in the Salon, and sunshine flooded onto the catwalk with Nanette Lepore’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

This season, Lepore sent down bright colors in classic summer shapes. A sunny yellow jacket-and-shorts combination shot out like a ray of light; a paisley border printed dress fluttered by like a summerbreeze, and a gorgeous black embroidered coat glided along like a sailboat down the river. Closing the show was Lepore’s own daughter Violet, making a surprise modeling debut in a carefree black and white embroidered dress.

With the models in matching topknots, it was clear the foundation of this collection was a good time. Fun chunky heels and wraparound sandals in the same bold coloring tied together a collection that was both feminine and cool.

According the program, the collection was “dreamy California meets South of France savoir-vivre.” Excluding a couple of out-of-place black silk tops that conflicted with the decidedly relaxed aesthetic, the Spring collection was a fun vacation to the beach and everyone was transported; even the models began clapping and dancing along to music during the finale.

Lepore created a collection that evokes both trendy vivacity and low-key elegance. And as the models conga-lined down the runway with Lepore and Violet manning the caboose, the phrase “girls just want to have fun” has never been truer.
