Located on the southeast corner of Washington Square Park, the Goddard Residential College is a prime real estate for freshmen looking for a more traditional living experience during their first year at NYU. Goddard neighboring Starbucks, is located above the 80WSE gallery and offers students a convenient walk to most NYU buildings.

Goddard is unique among the freshman residence halls in that it requires prospective residents to apply to live there. Once accepted, freshmen are placed into one of six “streams,” which are themed floors that give students the option to replace their Writing the Essay course with stream-specific courses. All residents are required to attend two hall events per month, which grant students access to cheaply priced events around New York City.

Residents generally agree that the social life of Goddard isn’t as vibrant as the other halls. The ongoing infrastructure repairs are also happening right outside the dorm, which can make for some rude awakenings.

Room types depend on the option a prospective student chooses. Most rooms are suite-style for either two or three roommates, though there are single rooms available. Unfortunately, this hall does not have kitchens in the rooms or a dining hall located inside the dorm itself. However, because of its location it is only a short distance away from dining halls in Kimmel, Weinstein and Hayden.

All in all, living in Goddard is a distinctive experience, and while the amenities may not be the best, the access to the rest of the university’s resources is worth the trouble.
