"Fraternity Massacre at Hell Island" (2006) Monday at Pioneer Theater, 7 p.m.

We've all heard of a sorority massacre - even massacres of the cheerleaders' slumber party and bikini-party type - but a fraternity massacre? Apparently they do happen, and with homoerotic overtones. A night at a haunted river-park island is apparently not as fun as it sounds when the pledges of Zeta Alpha Rho are killed off one by one. This campy slasher film should appeal to anyone who loves horror spoofs, low-budget thrills and killer clowns. - Patrick Keene

"Three Times" (2005) and "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" (2006) IFC Center through Feb. 1

IFC is presenting two of the best films released last year that you did not see. Hou Hsiao-hsien's "Three Times" is composed of three romances - set in 911, 1966 and 2005 - starring the same two actors, Shu Qi and Chang Chen. The storytelling is spare, but the exploration of intrarelationship communication is complex and powerful. Cristi Puiu's bleakly humorous "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" is about a lonely 63-year-old who, after calling for an ambulance, is deferred by every hospital he arrives at. - William Akers

"The Films of Kazuo Hara" (1972-1994) Anthology Film Archives, Jan. 31 to Feb. 2

This show features the work of one of the more well-regarded Japanese documentarians, when it comes to the taboos and the underbelly of Japanese society he explores - which at the time was unfathomable to the public. Films include the haunting "Extreme Private Eros: Love Song 1974," "Goodbye CP," "The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On" and "A Dedicated Life." The program begins with "Naked Army" on Wednesday. - John Lichman

"Cremaster 3" (2002) Landmark Sunshine, Friday and Saturday at midnight

Hey, esoteric art freak - go see this movie and freak out! • - John Lichman
