Spring staples, with added flair

Published March 7, 2010

The snow-packed streets are thawing into the mottled colors of spring. It's time to switch up sweaters for skirts, prepare for sunshine and spring rain and modify your wardrobe a little.

The Boyfriend
It's spring, which means love is in the air, so have your boyfriend on your arm.
Joking. But this season is all about oversized blazers and long plaid shirts that seem to have been pinched from a man's closet. There's something great and subtly sexy about a navy blazer with gold buttons or buffalo plaid teamed with skinny jeans. It's all about maintaining feminine accents, structure and sex appeal.
"The blazer is an easy way to dress things up with a little bit of structure," CAS sophomore Alexandra Elizabeth Shaheen said.

Flowers
It may be a cliché, but wearing flowers for spring is a good look. The question: Should you opt for a tiny floral signature or be inspired by oversized gardens? Urban Outfitters boasts adorable full-skirt, flower-print dresses and rompers. Forever 21 has oversized, glittering flower rings that add a little something extra to an outfit. And many little boutiques sell oversized faux flowers to tuck behind your ear for a feminine look. Embrace florals, and you're embracing spring.
"Flowers brighten any outfit," Steinhardt sophomore Kristen Kim said.
If you're wearing something plain, she said a flower can be a nice and quirky touch.
"And it's easy, too," she added.
