What kind of cycling chick wears bejeweled bow tie necklaces? Betsey Johnson's cycling chicks do. And her prom girls happen to wear glittery princess crowns, too.
The designer's spring/summer '11 runway show was an extravaganza of biking wear loaded with sex appeal, prom dresses splattered in neon colors and nautical suits with a burlesque edge. The truth is, when you put the Betsey Johnson spin on any category of clothing, it's bound to be delightfully over-the-top. If anyone can incorporate flouncy tulle skirts and glitter into sportswear, it's her.
Models sashayed down the runway in explosive colors. Think turquoise eye shadow, siren lips and gold and electric blue spandex shorts. The nautical ensembles included corsets and sheer fabric. Chic sailor hats sat jauntily on the models' mussed up hair (sexily teased, of course). Ankles dipped into American Flag-patterned boots.
Music included Cut Copy's '80s synth-pop, which enhanced the energy of the show. Something about trippy laser beats went perfectly with the playful lineup of prom outfits. There were highlighter-yellow bandeau tops and prom tutus, hot pink wristbands and oversized corsages.
At the end, six models appeared in bright strapless dresses. As they turned their backs to the audience, the letters on their backs read "RIDE ON."
