UPDATE: 9:20 p.m.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. Wednesday night, a fire alarm went off in Bobst Library. According to NYU Public Safety, the alarm was not part of a scheduled fire drill by the university.

One security guard at Bobst told WSN there was a fire in the "basement" of the library. It is unclear if he was referring to either of the lower levels of the library.

Students were let back into the library around 9:10 p.m.

The New York City Fire Department responded to the alarm but are no longer on the scene.
