Call it the East Village’s less groomed little brother: Alphabet City, though charming, has always had a gritty and hard-knock vibe. But over the past decade the area has boomed. The recent openings of Bedlam Bar and Affaire have caught a trendy following, even stealing some cachet from the Meatpacking and Hell’s Kitchen districts. And popular restaurants like Back Forty and Barbone offer the fine dining experience usually found uptown.
