Staycation (n.): a holiday during which you stay at home and visit nearby places. Sound boring? Not if you try these spring break boosters.
1. Treat your home like a resort and plan your adventures around town. Research your local attractions and create a schedule with a list of local activities.
2. Get artistic by creating art for your home. Visit homehacks.apartmenttherapy.com/2010 for "Smart How-Tos for Great Homes" design ideas. At least you'll return to classes with a newly pimped-out dorm room.
3. Camp out in your backyard. This means setting up a tent and feasting on sausages and s'mores. As an added bonus, you don't have to venture into the woods to relieve yourself.
4. Experience the next best thing to a water park by buying and assembling a water slide. Warning: this is only applicable to those who reside in milder winter climates, unless getting frostbite is on your list of things to achieve this break.
5. Throw a toga party and invite all of your friends to indulge in feta-topped flatbread, figs, grapes and lamb gyros. If you can't get honey mead, just keep it classy with wine and beer.
6. Turn your kitchen into a restaurant. Try new recipes. If you botch them, you'll have seven days to try again.
7. Indulge in a spa day at home, or book one at a local spa. Do some research beforehand to get the most relaxing experience possible.
8. Attend local sporting events, even if it's just a home game at your local high school. Who doesn't love senior year nostalgia?
9. Investigate new restaurants. Explore different types of food — vegan, organic, Ethiopian, Cantonese or Cuban. Eat with your hands or try something spicy.
10. Most importantly, take countless photos of your staycation adventures. If there are no pictures, there's no proof that your spring break happened. Even a staycation is better than no vacation.
