Think of it as too much time stuck on the chairlift in Vail. The designers at Moncler Grenoble, who have been on the slopes for a full year now, decided they could do much more with their feet then just dangle them off the lift. One hundred models and a choreographed routine later, Moncler wound its way into Grand Central's Main Concourse, only an hour from the nearest slopes.
The flash mob, which added the flair that has become common of the French sportswear label, gave real movement to the garments. I don't think I've ever been able to dance in the puff pants that I've taken to the Plattekill Mountains, but I'm debating doing just that now. Slim fitted pants, tailored vests and puffer jackets looked great on the models. One outfit, a v-neck maroon ribbed sweater with a black v-shaped overlay caught my eye. Colors throughout the show were intense, with a focus on burgundy reds, mustard yellows, hunter greens and gray-blacks.
The outerwear, most of which you can expect to see next winter in the snow, was technically savvy and good looking. Either color blocked or in tartans and plaids, the goose down puffers, nylon windbreakers and quilted cardigans made a splash. One coat swapped a climber's carabiner in for buttons. It was that whimsy and playful attitude that kept these winter wares fresh. Add in the sheepskin inserts and trims and even the harshest climates won't feel as rough.
