Yesterday the Department of Parks and Recreation again warned NYU students to remove bicycles from the southern railing of Washington Square Park, across the street from Bobst Library. If the bikes are not removed on time, the department said it will move them. Owners will then need to call the department to retrieve their belongings, said parks department spokesperson Cristina DeLuca.
The department has yet to move any bikes (despite a sign it posted last week saying bikes would be removed by Sept. 20).
"Right now, we're just trying to alert students so they are aware of the situation and can remove them so the fence can be put up," DeLuca said.
NYU spokesman John Beckman said the university is exploring alternate options for bike parking on campus.
