Another of Mendieta's Esculturas Rupestres carved into the Escaleras de Jaruco (Stairs
of Jaruco), in Cuba. These Iife-sized figures were carved into the natural limestone and
in doing so, her "Earth-body" work, with its devotional themes of returning to the earth
and homeland, had been brought to the site of her own once lost origin.
