Women's head coach Lauren Beam was pleased with her team's performance.

"This was a great meet for us and we got to swim some teams that we don't normally see," Beam said.

Freshman Tatum Gormley continued a great season and led the way for the Violets. She notched victories in the 400-yard individual medley (4:37.85), 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.83), and 200-yard butterfly (2:10.29).

"I'm very happy with my times this weekend," Gormley said. "I was inspired by my teammates."

Adding to the success of the women's team was senior co-captain Danielle Hildebrandt, who finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.18), and sophomore Molly Rippe, who grabbed first in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:24.34).

On the diving team, sophomore Kelly Dietz claimed first in the one-meter dive (258.10), and second in the three-meter with a score of 234.05.

Though the men didn't fare quite as well as the women, head coach Bob Sorensen was pleased with some of the times that his team posted.

"Most of our swimmers did season-best times in one or more events, which was our goal," he said.

Sophomore James Bedell placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (47.03), and swam a leg in the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay.

Bedell also earned an NCAA "B" cut in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 51.11.

"We have a feel of where our relay and individual [times] are sitting," Bedell said.

Sorensen added: "The challenge now is to maintain that level of conditioning through exams so that we are prepared for the second half of the season."

Junior Max Norris placed second in both the one-meter and three-meter dives with scores of 254.30 and 259.80, respectively.

The men's team will travel to Miami, Fla., on Jan. 5 for winter training, and will kick off the spring semester on Jan. 9 at the Palm Beach County Invitational. The women will also be in Florida for training trip and to compete in the Fort Lauderdale Invitational.
