Junior Dylan Karten placed second in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 8 minutes and 37.26 seconds — his career best and NYU's best finish of the day.

Fellow junior David Knowles finished fifth in the 5k-meter race at 15:15.76.

"Not only is it fairly early in the season, but I felt relaxed and controlled for most of race," Knowles said. "I hope to run faster toward the end of the season after months of high mileage and workouts."

In his first collegiate mile race, sophomore James Goldstein finished at 4:21.49 in 13th place. Senior Matt Turlip placed 11th. Southern Connecticut State University junior Josh Perry won the event in 4:07.31.

Freshman Alyssa Binczyk was the highest finisher for the women's team. Binczyk placed sixth in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:18.24.

"I am happy with my performance in the 800," Bincyzk said. "The competition was tough, but it provided a good opportunity for a solid race."

Senior captain Maeve Evans, senior Laura Santoski, freshman Izzi Corso and Binczyk took fifth place in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:35.18. SUNY Stony Brook finished in 11:46.78 for first place.

The relay was the first race this season for Evans, who was injured and could not run for the past six weeks.

"I just started running about a week and a half ago, so I'm just working on getting back into shape" Evans said. "My speed will come eventually but I just need to be patient and smart about building back up again."

Both the men's and women's teams will compete next weekend at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the New Balance Track and Field Center.
