Lacoste Spring/Summer 2013

Lacoste Spring Summer 2013 collection was promised to be one of the best shows during fashion week and once again the iconic brand delivered.

Known for its casual elegance and fashionable sportswear, the show drew in fashion and sport lovers alike.  Some of the big names in attendance of this show include: Russell Westbrook, June Ambrose, Harley Viera-Newton, Kris Humphries, and Joanna Coles.

The show started with the sounds of bouncing tennis balls and the hitting of rackets until the first look emerged. The model was wearing an all white look including an oversized version of the iconic Lacoste polo shirt and slacks.

Around the tenth look the brand’s recognizable label of the alligator started taking center stage in patterns on tops and fanny packs. To break the all white spell, the fourteenth look down the runway featured a polo dress with a stripe of yellow going down the front and side. From that look on, burnt oranges, reds, light blues, royal blues, and patterns started to emerge.

Many garments were deigned with asymmetrical color blocking, in reference to the style of the 1980s.  There were also patterns made of tennis balls, racquets, and geometric squares on pants, tops and large overcoats.

The show stopping pieces of this collection was definitely the outerwear. Capes and jackets with accentuated hoods and pockets elevated typically sporty pieces to high fashion.

Another trend that was prevalent in the last couple looks was cutouts. The cutouts were around the hip and tactfully done so that they as not reveal too much.

The menswear was kept simple with the collared shirts and pants but the colors and patterns took it to the next level.

Lacoste is getting ready to celebrate their 80th anniversary and creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptiste kept the integrity of this brand and what it represents but brought it into the modern era.
