Christoper Esber and Ellery Spring/Summer 2013

The showroom for Christopher Esber and Ellery showcased each designers unique perspecitives, while still maintaining continuity. Both of the Australian natives made their New York Fashion Week debut, and their collections certainly did not disappoint.

Upon entering the showroom, alternative music pulsing, viewers were presented with two distinctly different shows. In one half, Ellery melds an earthy color palette, complete with wood heeled shoes- with metallic and leather. Such seemingly contradictory trends are incorporated seamlessly and the model’s bronze cheeks and pale lips serve to complement the post-modern Bohemian look. Ellery presented a cohesive collection of collared shirts, short hemlines, and oversized jackets.

Christopher Esber’s collection similarly played with oposing ideas. With a color palette composed almost entirely of navy blue, white, and black, the model’s pink lips and thinly glittered eyes leant a necessary element of lightness to a collection that was quite severe. The plunging v necks, slit skirts and severely tight ponytails benefited greatly from the occasional pop of color.

Similar moments of surprise were a theme throughout, including several backless tops, sheer cutouts, and liberal use of asymmetry. Fittingly, the music selected had its own unexpected quirks- namely the occasional gasp, or cheer. Fortunately such elements failed to distract an audience that was so clearly captivated by the cutting edge work Christopher Esber and Ellery produced.
