As you enter a dark room, floorboards creak beneath your feet. You can hear the wind howling outside. Suddenly, you hear a piercing scream and a bloody hand grab your shoulder. If this kind of fear thrills you, take a trip to a haunted house this Halloween season. Here are the top five scariest haunted houses and attractions in New York City.

Blood Manor

Blood Manor, SoHo’s most infamous haunted house, has been upgraded with newer, scarier technology this year. The new additions, which include a laser spectacular and a 3-D labyrinth, bypass the traditional ghosts and ghouls to create dynamic effects that allow the attraction to engage more directly with visitors.

General admission is $33.50 when reserved by phone or online and $35 at the door. Express entry tickets can be purchased for $48.50 by phone or online and $50 at the door.

Killers: A Nightmare Haunted House

You will not find any clowns or goblins at Nightmare: Killers on the Lower East Side. Instead, beware of criminals and serial killers running after you. This theatrical attraction, a collaboration between Timothy Haskell and Steve Kopelman, two major haunted house producers, features actors playing real-life killers, such as Ted Bundy and the Zodiac Killer.

Halloween Nights of Horror at Coney Island’s Luna Park

Luna Park Coney Island’s Nights of Horror is a perfect Halloween destination for theme park enthusiasts. For $30 visitors gain unlimited access to all 11 of the park’s rides and entrance to two haunted mazes, Coney Carnival and Cudie Farm. Coney Carnival, a haunted fun house, features evil clowns. At Cudie Farm, beware of scarecrows roaming the haunted farm house.

Blackout Haunted House

Blackout Haunted House is the ultimate haunted house experience. No one under the age of 18 is admitted, and all visitors are required to walk through the attraction alone. Visitors are armed with only a flashlight and a protective mask while they wander through the house to see what horrors await.

Wall Street Walks Halloween Ghost Tours

If you are looking for an attraction that is slightly less frightening, try the Wall Street Walks Ghost Tour. During this 90-minute tour in downtown Manhattan, visitors are led through various gravesites, historical buildings and dark alleys. Some of the stops on the tour include the haunted Fraunces Tavern, Stone Street and Hanover Square.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students.
