The award for most costume changes in a commencement ceremony goes to the Tisch Salute, held at Radio City Music Hall at 11 a.m. on May 24. Featuring a student dance performance and a medley of songs from the musical “Spring Awakening,” sung by Tisch drama students, the salute to the class of 2013 delivered theatrics from the start. Forgoing the traditional student procession through the aisles, the graduates came from the wings of the stage while an organist played. Honored speaker Glen Mazzara, former showrunner of “The Walking Dead,” delivered a speech full of humor and poignancy about his own failures, the love of creating art that stands the test of time and the importance of supporting other artists — the entire crowd was on its feet and applauding thunderously at the end. And, in true Tisch fashion, the ceremony ended with a dramatic flair: as the platform party recessed, the organ player re-emerged from the wall to close the proceedings.
