Marrying weather-worn separates with futuristic accessories and fabrics, Elie Tahari presented his Spring/Summer 2015 collection at his Fifth Avenue store amid a sea of guests and photographers yesterday evening.

Models, lined up against a single wooden-paneled wall, donned casual, layered looks in colors ranging from shark fin gray to poppy red, forming a gradient effect down the row. Another model posed alone in the front window before a giant metal vault and wood planks, channeling a post-apocalyptic mood while wearing a sea green-draped midlength dress.

Tahari said in his program that his inspiration drew from “a ship-wrecked, high-tech bohemian” and paid close attention to the materials used throughout the collection, which included mesh, linen, distressed leather and laser-cut neoprene.

Tahari played with cuts, textures and techniques this season, mixing well-worn tops with mesh jackets and sheer skirts as well as fringe jackets with tailored pants and even a shell-colored midlength fringe dress. One look that stood out featured a mesh top hidden beneath a black fringe jacket and a floral skirt layered with structured black mesh.

One of the final looks on display included a white long-sleeved linen crop top and a layered high-waisted eyelet skirt with streaks of pink and yellow. Thick-strapped gladiator booties, cut-out pointed oxfords and slouchy leather clutches finished off the styles. Models left their locks soft and wavy to accentuate the beachside theme, and minimal makeup along with defined brows cemented the laid-back atmosphere.

With such contrasting themes blended effortlessly, Tahari succeeded in fusing naturally frayed frocks with rough and rigid designs, bringing the relaxed spirit of the ocean to the downtown woman.
