Zang Toi Spring/Summer 2015

As guests of Zang Toi’s Spring 2015 show took their seats, Lana Del Rey’s “National Anthem” played, speaking to the theme of the designer’s 25th Anniversary Show: “A Privileged Life: The American Dream.” The lights dimmed, and a black crocodile ensemble took the runway by storm to the beat of Lenny Kravitz’s “American Woman.

Models following the opening look emerged in bold red pantsuits and structured red and white striped sport coats. Streamlined cap-sleeve emerald green coats and gowns dotted the runway, providing rich contrast to reds and blacks seen at the start of the show.

Other standout pieces included plum and fuchsia infused block column midi-dresses, as well as silky violet orchid-print gowns.

The final looks of the Malaysian-born designer’s show elegantly represented his perception of the American Dream. Models were draped in black silk and strings of pearls while some glided down the runway, organza flowing behind them.

Toi portrayed the “American Heiress” in an expertly tailored signature gown with a pearl embellished T-shape halter-top, while a bold, white satin tuxedo jacket depicted the “Portrait of the All American Prince.”

Guests of Toi’s show included Andre Leon Tally, Whoopi Goldberg, Cynthia Bailey of Bravo TV’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” actor and friends Vincent DePaul, Nigel Barker and his wife Cristen Barker.

“The show was stunning, absolutely beautiful. It was very Zang Toi, the true American boy,” Nigel Barker said.

At the close of the show, Toi was given a cake while guests and models sang “Happy Anniversary” to him to congratulate him on his quarter century of outstanding, luxurious, designs.
