Union Square eatery offers fresh meals, deals

If you are looking for a fresh, healthy place to eat near Union Square, Darrow’s Farm Fresh Takeout should not be missed. Darrow’s, which offers the opportunity to taste organic products from the local Union Square Greenmarket, opened two months ago and  is already available on Seamless, Caviar and Tapingo.

Owner Peter Darrow created the restaurant to honor his father, who was diagnosed with cancer when Peter was 22 years old. Julie Starr, the restaurant’s nutritionist, plays a huge role in choosing what the best options are for a nutrient-rich and healthy meal.

Take out is available on the first floor, where one can see the entire kitchen. The lunch menu comprises different salads, burgers and sandwiches, and you can build your own meal, which can contain both hot and cold items mixed together. The dinner menu has more options, including main courses with side orders and desserts. Gluten free and plant-based meal options are offered as well.

If you want to do some shopping before or after your meal, check out the Darrow’s Market area. This section of the restaurant sells organic products such as kale chia chips, teas and other healthy items. There is also a juice bar that offers different types of healthy, nutritious juices and smoothies on tap where you do not have to wait in long lines.

If you want to dine in at the restaurant, the second floor contains many small tables. During lunch, iPads are placed at each table so customers can look over and order from the menu virtually. Darrow wanted to incorporate some aspects of a traditional restaurant experience, however, so the dinner menu is offered on paper.

Darrow’s is a great deal for NYU students because it accepts Campus Cash.  It is conveniently located at 18th Street between Park Avenue and Irving Place, and is quickly becoming a favorite for NYU students.
