Crime log: Sept. 6 to 12

The NYU Department of Public Safety received reports of seven incidents of larceny, two incidents of controlled substance possession and one incident of criminal mischief between Sept. 6 and Sept. 12.

Larceny

At 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 7, a non-NYU contractor reported that she left her purse unattended on a theater seat in the Steinhardt Education Building at 2 p.m. and discovered her purse missing two hours later. No suspect was identified and police notification was declined.

At 8:52 p.m. on Sept. 7, a student stated that she left her necklace inside an unlocked drawer in University Hall on Sept. 3 at 5 a.m. When she returned on Sept. 7 at 8:35 p.m. she found the necklace missing. Police were notified and the incident is under investigation.

At 4:43 p.m. on Tuesday, a student reported that he accidentally left his bicycle unsecured at the bike rack in the Schwartz Plaza at 9:30 a.m. When he returned at 4:25 p.m. his bicycle was missing. The police were not notified.

At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, a student stated that on Sept. 2 at 5 p.m., an unidentified male  approached him and offered him a CD while he was walking north on Broadway between West 4th Street and Washington Place. The student reported that once he opened his wallet to give the unidentified male money, the unidentified male grabbed a $20 bill out of the student’s wallet and sprinted away. Police notification was declined.

At 9:19 a.m. on Wednesday, a student stated that he was approached by three unidentified males as he was walking on Broadway in front of the NYU bookstore on Tuesday  at 1 p.m. The three males gave him a CD and demanded the student hand over money. The student further reported that as he opened his wallet, one of the males grabbed all of the bills ($73) and they all left.  Police were not notified. 

At 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, a student reported he locked his bicycle to a New York City bike rack in front of 25 West 4th St. at 8 a.m. He returned at 2 p.m. and discovered the bike was missing.  Police notification was declined.

At 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a student reported that he secured his bicycle to the handicap ramp in the courtyard of Vanderbilt Hall at 10:50 a.m. After returning at 2 p.m., he discovered his bicycle was missing. Police were not notified.

Controlled Substance

At 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, NYU Public Safety received a report of an alleged controlled substance in a Weinstein Residence Hall room. When they arrived on the scene, they recovered a small amount of marijuana.

At 3:13 p.m. on Wednesday, NYU Public Safety responded to a report of an alleged controlled substance in a Carlyle Court residence hall room. Upon arriving, they recovered a small amount of marijuana.

Criminal Mischief

At 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 7, a doorman stated that he noticed graffiti on a scaffolding outside of Silver Towers on Bleecker Street. Police
were notified.
