Concept Korea Menswear Fall/Winter 2016

Concept Korea XIII kicked off its 13th season by staying true to its avant-garde origins. The Korean government funded fashion brand is led by designers Kang Don Jun and Jang Hyeong Cheol who showcased their effortless ability to blend minimalistic basics with richly toned, utility-style overcoats and accessories for an overall polished, yet grungy bourgeois street-style look.

The show began with Concept Korea’s DBDY presentation, reminding us of Kang Don Jun’s minimalistic preference evidenced through the consistent use of neutrals. The neutrals were accessorized with hats and sunglasses seemingly inspired by the 1960’s western space-age “hippie” look that has recently made its way back into the fashion world. However DBDY added an elegant spin to this look by making the accessories in rich scarlet-stained hue.

Their next presentation, Ordinary People, followed suit successfully by incorporating its own versions of the classic business-style overcoat to accessorize each look. The overcoats ranged in form from cardigans to trench coats, integrating a classic black coat look with blends of navy or gray pop colors in different variations. Intermingled in the mix of these looks was a neutral camel-colored set with a cheetah print trench overcoat. Seeing this variation in the Ordinary People final walk solidified Concept Korea’s distinguished notoriety in bringing an avant-garde spin to classic street-style looks to the global fashion market.
