Second Street

Second Street residence hall is one of the smaller residence halls, housing about 300 upperclassmen on 12 floors. Of the upperclassman dorms, it is one of the closest to campus.

The sense of community at Second Street is surprising. Many complain about the unfriendly faces around NYU and the rest of New York, and after a tough day, the familiarity here is welcome. Because of the dorm’s relatively small size, it is easier to recognize some familiar faces and begin making friends.

The neighborhood is also quite special, full of great restaurants. It is one of the most historic in Manhattan. There is also an abundance of quaint coffee shops, bakeries and boutiques.

The residence hall is near live music venues like the Bowery Ballroom, as well as many nightclubs and poetry cafes. The New Museum of Contemporary Art is also just a few blocks away. There is much to do in the area, and when out on a stroll, celebrity sightings are common.
