Barbara Tfank S/S 2018

As the curious pedestrians of E. 10th St. passed by Maison Gerard — a French art deco decor store — Barbara Tfank’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection premiered inside. Tfank gave her presentation in her usual fashion — a casual, yet poised morning gathering to provide natural lighting onto her metallic, satin-like dresses.

“I recently took a trip to Tuscany, Italy — specifically Umbria,” Tfank said. “I was inspired by all the architecture and the wonderful flora throughout the landscape.”

Many of the outfits were done in Tfank’s classic, ladylike cuts as seen in the cocktail dresses and floor-length gowns. One gown was cream with gold detailing and featured a double-panel cape flowing over the back. The mid-length, oversized coats stole the show — with even the owner of Maison Gerard jokingly trying one on. Coordination came into play, as a pastel-striped, double breasted coat matched the accompanying cocktail dress and a blush neon floral printed coat complemented the coral halter dress beneath.

All of the models’ hair was tied back into a braided bun decorated with pearled pins. Their makeup was kept simple with a rose-colored lip accompanied by red nails.

Staying true to her known repertoire, Tfank put out a collection more diverse in color palette and silhouettes than her past collections. Tfank’s S/S 2018 collection is refreshing to longtime followers and to fresh eyes of Tfank’s designs.
