The Immigration Issue

October 10, 2017

We are both immigrants. We both came to the United States with similar goals: education, professional opportunities and a higher quality of life. We are both still technically guests in this country. On the surface our stories are similar, but our means of getting here are notably different. As is the nature of immigration in general.

With a continuing refugee crisis causing displacement and attention drawn to the intricacies of immigration by executive orders and presidential actions, the public’s attention is often on immigrants. However, it is easy to forget that they are human too and not just pawns in the daily news cycle. We want to highlight the humanity of the issue — the everyday stories from professors, teaching assistants, students, the people around us.

Lots of love,

Jemima and Yasmin
